Silica related conditions
|
Silica is a naturally occurring mineral that is part of sand, rock and mineral ores such as quartz. Historically, it has been those working in mining and foundry occupations who have been exposed to silica dust.
More recently, silicosis has been diagnosed in stonemasons cutting up reconstituted stone products that are found in many kitchens and bathrooms today. There is a high concentration of silica (up to 90%) in certain reconstituted stone products, which, has led to the reemergence of silicosis and other silica related conditions. |
The inhalation of silica has been linked to:
Silicosis Silica related lung cancer Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Scleroderma and some other auto-immune conditions |
If you have been diagnosed with silicosis or another condition that may have been caused by your exposure to silica, it is important you seek immediate legal advice. |
